I use Amazon to purchase all the time and still was a bit leery of ordering a man's suit without first trying it on. Based on the reviews I took a chance and ordered two suits. One Nicoletti and one Valentino based on the sizing I got from trying out suits elsewhere.
Suits arrived in good order and fit well. Except for the shortening of sleeves I could have worn them out the door.
Here's what I ran across and you may also. If you need your arms shortened, like on most suits they make them on the long side to make sure the suit fits just about everyone, you will need to find an actual men's tailor to shorten the sleeves and not someone who claims they can do the job over the phone.
I must have called 10 seamstress and tailor shops asking how much they charged to shorten the sleeves on two men's suits. 8 of the 10 I found over the phone couldn't do a good job of it and 1 was $100 per suit and the other $65 per. I choose the lady seamstress from Russia who used to make men's suits back in her homeland.
She did a great job and both suits fit very well.
Here's the challenge. If these suits had normal suit sleeve buttons it would be easy for just about anyone with sewing experience to shorten the sleeves. These suite, at least the two models I got, both have a four button sleeve with BUTTONHOLES and a sleeve vent.
This means if you try to shorten the sleeve from the bottom up, the sleeve will never look right. First there is not enough space between the buttons to be able to cut the sleeve between the buttons and fold under to sew. Then there is the problem of the sleeve vent. That also will never look right.
You need to find someone who can shorten the sleeve from the shoulder instead. This takes a lot of work and someone who knows what they are doing.
Remember; don't just accept anyone who tells you they can do it. You've got one chance to make it right. If you are around Seattle, I used Express Alterations by Crossroads. She did an excellent job.
If the suit fits - wear it!
